We picked up this mahogany mirror in Maine at the Avalon Antiques Market (536 Bath Road, US Route 1, Wiscasset, Maine). If you find yourself in the area, this multi-dealer antique market is well worth the stop. If we had more room in our apartment, there were many pieces I would have gladly brought home.
The mirror was listed as an "Empire style," and I believe this style of mirror is called an "ogee mirror," named for the S-like curve to the wood frame. We debated between two similar mirrors at the shop and opted for this one, which was $25 cheaper than the other. Its glass was less clear, but the veneer was in better shape (even though the wood looked quite dry, which a couple coats of Howard Feed-N-Wax handily fixed).
The mirror's wood doesn't match our dresser, but that's fine by me. We hung it off-center to accomodate the room's light switch; a smaller mirror and a framed photo sort of balance the space. It's a big improvement over the frameless mirror I'd picked up on the street in the West Village a decade ago.
