More Art Hung

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

I realized I never posted a photo of the other side of the living area. Here it is! I mounted the Ikea picture ledges above the couch to house various smaller pieces of art. What do you think?

Ceiling Fan Refreshed

Monday, April 27, 2009

Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference. I spray painted my ceiling fan blades white this weekend and it's like I have a whole new fixture. (They were an awful faux maple before.) It's one of those quick fixes that makes you think, "Why didn't I do this before?"

Yum: Cauliflower Flatbread

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Last night I cooked dinner for a bunch of girlfriends. All the recipes I tried were a success, but Mark Bittman's Curried Cauliflower Flatbread from this week's Dining section of The New York Times was the star of the meal. It was easy to make, delicious and satisfying. Plus the ingredients cost next to nothing. I'm definitely going to play with the recipe, as per his suggestion here.

Another project from the same article on Sunset.com: Pillows made from used/vintage clothing.

String lights made from cardboard egg cartons from Apartment Therapy Los Angeles.

Candle holders made from cement and soda bottles via Room Service (wish I spoke whatever Scandinavian language in which this is written).

Annie, We Love You

Thursday, April 09, 2009

So, I recently mentioned the architecture firm Noroof Architects in a post. In the NYT article about Noroof there was a mention of a woman who had curated an architecture exhibit in Brooklyn; I wrote the name "Annie Coggan" down to look up later. I little digging revealed that Annie Coggan is an architect who decamped to Starkville, Mississippi and opened a cafe. Two posts on Bloesem (here and here) about Annie's work made me fall in love. So, I've been reading her blog, Chairs and Buildings and admiring her work. How amazing are these chairs?!? I am so glad I thought to make a note of her name from that piece.

Clustered Art

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

I finally got around to hanging some of my art yesterday. After consulting with my little sister, I decided to hang all these pieces in a cluster above the dining table. I have had all of my art on photo ledges for years and years, so this is a real change for me. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I thought I had hung everything a little too high, but then when T. and I were eating dinner last night it seemed like they were at a good height to accommodate someone sitting at the table. What do you think? Does this arrangement work? I would love to hear your thoughts.
